We are thrilled to have Didier Chung join us once again for BoardFest 2024, showcasing the latest wing gear from CORE, ENSIS, and Sic.

Unwin Bridge Construction starting Wed May 28 at 8pm until Fri May 31

The City of Toronto will be doing work on the Unwin St Bridge from Wed May 29 @ 8:00 pm until sometime on Fri May 31. Construction will take place overnight, and during this time the bridge will be subject to closures. Vehicles will be allowed to cross every 15-20 minutes. The cycle path will remain open. Also note that the Cherry St bridge is still closed, the city has not yet announced when this bridge will be available for traffic. Details about the closure can be found here.

We regret to inform you that the SUP and Surfski Spring Classic scheduled for Sunday, June 11, has been cancelled.

Due to the recent wildfires and their impact on the air quality index, we believe it would be unsafe to proceed with the event. While we understand the disappointment this news may bring, we prioritize your well-being above all else.

Refunds will be provided to all registered participants.

Boardfest looks good for Sat June 4

The Weather Network is reporting 21 and sunny this Saturday, June 4, looks like BoardFest is a go!

Yoga with Joey has been moved up to the morning, a great way to start the day! Don't forget to check the schedule in the Events Calendar in case there are any other last minute changes.

BBQ lunch is available for $5.00 (cash). There will be a variety of options, including hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs and chicken souvlaki.

The next generation of sailors

We're stoked to see a new generation of sailors out on the water this weekend including 3 year old Matteo all smiles with his dad and an enthusiastic group completing a 3-day intensive Instructor Training Workshop. Our resident raccoon babies* watched with great interest.

* Please don't feed the raccoons by hand. It would appear that the young kits have lost their mom, we are doing what we can to give them the best opportunity to survive with advice from the Toronto Wildlife Centre.

Purple Flowering Raspberry Bushes

A HUGE thank you to David, Jason, Jennifer, Jim and Julia for planting Purple Flowering Raspberry plants along the bike path today. These native plants can grow 6'-12' wide, produce large purple flowers that bloom for a long period in the summer and the have a rose-like fragrance. The berries are edible but do not have much taste, however they will be cherished by local wildlife.

Our efforts to remove invasive species and plant native shrubs will support the continued health of the ecosystem around us for years to come.

Workfest 2022 was an amazing day!

We had an incredible turn out, close to 60 volunteers, working together to get the clubhouse, grounds, trailers, and equipment in top shape for the season.

That same afternoon another group of volunteers pitched in to remove invasive species from the area so that native plants and wildlife can thrive.

Thank you to everyone for the hard work and good times.

Planning for the season is underway and we need your help to bring our events to life! Registration for volunteer shifts will be done through the website using the "Register" feature on the event page.

Volunteer opportunities are now open for:

WorkFest 2022 - Sunday April 24 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Help prep the grounds and the clubhous for the season.
BoardFest 2022 - Saturday June 4, various times and shifts available.

It's a great way to get to know other members and learn more about the sport that we all love.

New era in Windsurfing Racing at Club!

After 40 years of Windsurfing racing at the club, It's a New Era as foiling and Wing-foiling are winning for the first time!

Club pros Max and Simon are (naturally) in the forefront -- Max displaying
amazing control of the WING foil and winning 2 (?) of the 3 races, closely
eking out wins in the final lap over fellow foilers and the top raceboards
(who have dominated club racing for decades!)

Also finishing in the top 4 or 5 in the fleet of 20 are student foils like
Paul and others -- can't wait to see the official results! The foils must
travel longer routes to the windward mark but on the fast reach down to
the leeward buoy they jump into the lead -- very entertaining! (Should
look good at the Olympics.)

With Ontario entering Step 2 of it's reopening framework on Wednesday June 30 we can start racing once again! We are limited to 25 people per event at this time and will have to monitor on a weekly basis.

COVID-19: TWC Short Checklist for Using the Club starting May 22, 2021

BEFORE LEAVING HOME

Download the COVID Alert app.
Check the Beach Webcam to see if the Club is too crowded.
Complete a self-screening assessment. If you answered YES to any of the questions, do not go to the Club.
CLUBHOUSE IS CLOSED. Dress/put on equipment at home as much as possible.
Bring your own equipment. Pack only essentials. Limit personal items as much as possible.
Don’t forget to bring masks or face coverings for each member coming with you.

AT THE CLUB

If the Club is too crowded, come back another time.
Know and adhere to Club’s policies and procedures.
Be ready to provide your name and contact information if it is required for public health contact tracing purposes.
Respect current provincial gathering limits.
Keep your hands clean. Sanitizers are found on the door of every container. Avoid touching your face.
Wear a mask or face covering at all times when inside the container and in the washroom.
Remain at least two meters from people you don’t live with at all times or wear a mask or facial covering.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

If your mask or face covering was removed, have it ready to put on as required by safety protocols.
Clean or sanitize your hands and avoid touching your face.
Pack up and head home immediately after the activity. Do not linger to socialize or otherwise.

COVID-19: TWC Safety Plan Snapshot

TWC is excited to be returning back to the club May 22, 2021 with the following safety measures in place.

SCREENING

TWC uses the COVID-19 Staff Screening Questionnaire/SMART WAIVER to screen all individuals who perform work, including employees, workers, volunteers, contractors, suppliers, etc., before they enter the club and asks Members to conduct a self-screening assessment. If they answered YES to any of the questions, they are asked to not come to the Club.

PHYSICAL DISTANCING

TWC asks Members to keep a physical distance of at least two metres/six feet from each other and posts physical distancing signs at all entrances, trailers, employee areas, and public areas (e.g. washrooms and the beach).

MASKS AND FACE COVERINGS

TWC asks everyone to wear a mask or face covering that covers their nose, mouth, and chin during any period when they are indoors. i.e. washroom, trailer.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

TWC provides disposable masks at the entrance of every trailer.
TWC trains employees on how to don and doff PPE safely.

HAND HYGIENE AND RESPIRATORY ETIQUETTE

TWC provides hand sanitizer (70-90% alcohol concentration) by entrances and throughout the club for employees and patrons to use (and posts sign on how to clean hands, cover your cough and protect yourself.)

CLEANING AND DISINFECTING

TWC patrons are asked to wipe surfaces before and after each use in the washrooms with provided wipes. TWC washrooms are cleaned weekly.

COVID-19 Update: Toronto Windsurfing Club Closed Until Further Notice

The Ontario Government has announced the extension of the Emergency Stay-At-Home Order, providing updated regulations that now require the closure of outdoor recreational amenities and marinas.

In order to ensure the security and safety of our members, the Club is closed effective immediately and until further notice. This closure includes TWC grounds and facilities such as the parking lot, lawn, storage trailers, clubhouse and washrooms.

This action reflects recommendations from Ontario Sailing and is consistent with the decisions of all other clubs of the Outer Harbour Sailing Federation which are also closed.

As a result of this closure, the locks on the entry gate and all storage containers have been changed and we ask all members to stop visiting the club immediately.

City by-law officers and/or the police may enforce with fines and penalties which start at $750 for individuals, significantly more for the club.

Those with storage will receive a separate email later today with instructions on making an appointment to arrange for one-time pick up and removal of any gear from TWC property. Once removed, equipment may not be returned until after the lock down regulations are lifted.

Update on New Lockdown Orders

The Ontario Government new Lockdown Order went into effect at 12:01 am on April 8. There were no changes to the portion of the Regulations that impact boating clubs or marinas (the category that we fall within), as such, the Toronto Windsurfing Club remains open for individual sailing with current restrictions in place.

Stay home if you are not feeling well and use Ontario's online COVID-19 screening tool if unsure of your symptoms.

Note that only 1 person is permitted in the storage containers and washroom at a time and masks are mandatory in these spaces. Please maintain a 2m distance between yourself and others and wash your hands regularly (hand sanitizer is available in every trailer).

Updated COVID-19 Regulations

The Ontario government has announced a provincewide emergency brake that will be effective for at least 4 weeks starting on Saturday, April 3, 2021, at 12:01 a.m. The club remains open for individual sailing with current restrictions in place.

Racing and instruction are not permitted under the new guidelines, and the clubhouse is to remain closed.

Face masks are mandatory in the storage containers and 2m distancing must be maintained with those not within your household.

2020 Wednesday Night Race Results Posted

Although our Wednesday Night Races in 2020 didn't start until August we had a good turn out and tons of fun!

COVID-19 Safety Reminders

In order to control the spread of COVID-19 it has been announced that a provincewide shutdown will be in effect across Ontario beginning at 12:01 am on Dec 26, 2020 through Jan 23, 2021 for Toronto and other identified areas and residents have been asked to stay home to the fullest extent possible. The clubhouse remains closed and access to storage available, however we remind members that only one person is permitted at a time and you are to wear a mask when entering the containers. Hand sanitizer is available just inside the entrance to each container.

Gate on Regatta Road

The City of Toronto is installing a new gate on Regatta Road on Thursday June 23.

This gate is intended to curb the many illegal activities going on in the area at night.

We don't have any specifics right now but members will still have unrestricted access to the club.
